Randall McDaniel

Biography


Randall McDaniel was an All-American guard and four-year starter (1984-1987) for Arizona State University. Among his many other accomplishments, he helped the Sun Devils win the 1986 Rose Bowl in the program’s first-ever appearance. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.

Selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 1988 NFL Draft, McDaniel established himself as the standard by which linemen of his era were judged. Randall made an NFL-record 12 consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl and was awarded All-Pro Honors nine times over his 14-year career, making him one of the most decorated offensive linemen in NFL history. He is a Vikings Ring of Honor member and was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2009. He was named to the NFL "All-Time" Top 100 Team in 2019.

Throughout his career, McDaniel was active in the community, directing his efforts toward educational initiatives for young people. For his philanthropic endeavors, he was twice named the Vikings' Walter Payton Man of the Year Award recipient and also earned the NFL Players Association's Unsung Hero Award. After retiring from the NFL in 2002, McDaniel continued his commitment to youth and education. He spent the next 19 years working as an Elementary School Basic Skills Instructor in Robbinsdale (MN) before retiring in 2021. McDaniel earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Arizona State.
