In February, the CFP announced that the 2026-27 CFP Quarterfinals would take place on Wednesday, December 30, 2026, at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl and Friday, January 1, 2027, at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and the Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential, while the CFP Semifinals would take place on January 14, 2027, at the Capital One Orange Bowl and January 15, 2027, at the Allstate Sugar Bowl. For the 2027-28 season, the CFP Quarterfinals are scheduled for Friday, December 31, 2027, at the Allstate Sugar Bowl and Saturday, January 1, 2028, at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and the Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential. CFP Semifinals that year would take place on Thursday, January 13, 2028, at the Capital One Orange Bowl and Friday, January 14, 2028, at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
The format of the 2026-27 CFP is built on a 12-team bracket. The 12 participating schools are the conference champions from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten Conference, Big 12 Conference, Southeastern Conference and the highest-ranked team from the American, Conference USA, Mid-American Conference, Mountain West, Pac-12 Conference and Sun Belt Conference, along with the next seven highest-ranked teams. The University of Notre Dame will be included in the playoff if it is ranked among the top 12 teams in the final CFP rankings. With the removal of conference historic bowl tie-ins from the bowl assignment process beginning in 2026, the CFP Management Committee approved a format in which the top three seeds, in rank order, select their bowl path in the Playoff.
Additional details regarding game times and television network assignments for all Playoff games will be announced at a later date.
