ROSEMONT, Illinois— The CFP Management Committee gathered Wednesday at Big Ten Conference headquarters for another productive session, one that touched on everything from the future shape of the Playoff to what fans can expect on Selection Day this December. Here are a few highlights from the meeting:
Progress on the 30-Day Window
Earlier this month, the CFP announced it would continue its evaluation of potential expansion to 24 teams by opening a media rights discussion with ESPN. The discussions remain confidential, and no decision or commitment to expand has been made. The negotiating window closes on October 9, and next steps will be determined based on everything gathered and assessed during that time.
A new wrinkle on Selection Day
As stated earlier this year, beginning this season, the top seeds will select their bowl path in the CFP, in rank order. The No. 1 seed will have 15 minutes to make its choice, while the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds will each have 10 minutes. As a reminder, there is no re-seeding, so every pick will shape the path ahead.
