A significant event in college football history happened. On June 26, 2012, the BCS Presidential Oversight Committee voted to submit legislation to the NCAA Board of Directors that would allow two institutions to participate in two postseason games in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) each year.
Through their unanimous decision, the presidents and chancellors created a four-team playoff to determine the national champion. They adopted a recommendation from the FBS conference commissioners. The new event would later be named the College Football Playoff.
